Vessel Carrying 63,000 Tons Of LNG From The Middle East Arrives At Thi Vai Port, Securing Fuel Supply For The Power System
A vessel transporting 63,000 tons of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) from the Middle East has arrived at the Thi Vai LNG Terminal in the Cai Mep area, Ho Chi Minh City, marking Vietnam’s first LNG import shipment of 2026.

According to the latest update, on the morning of March 10, the vessel FAT’H AL KHAIR safely docked after completing its international voyage. The LNG cargo on board is equivalent to approximately 87 million Sm³ of natural gas, playing an important role in supplementing fuel supply for Vietnam’s national power system.
LNG Shipping Journey from the Middle East to Vietnam
The LNG cargo was loaded on February 26 in the Middle East and transported by a specialized LNG carrier through several international maritime routes before arriving in Vietnam.
Notably, the vessel passed through the Strait of Hormuz before military tensions in the Middle East escalated, allowing the shipment to proceed without disruption. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important global energy transportation routes, through which a large portion of the world’s oil and gas supply flows.
The safe arrival of the LNG vessel demonstrates the resilience of the international energy supply chain, even as the Middle East becomes an increasingly sensitive geopolitical hotspot.
LNG to Be Regasified After Arrival
After docking at the Thi Vai LNG Terminal, the entire LNG cargo will be transferred into the regasification system, converting it from its liquefied state back into natural gas.
This gas will then be supplied to power plants in southern Vietnam, helping ensure sufficient fuel supply for electricity generation as the country’s energy demand continues to grow.
The Thi Vai LNG Terminal is currently one of Vietnam’s key LNG infrastructure hubs, playing a crucial role in the national energy development strategy and the diversification of fuel supply sources.
Positive Signal for the LNG Market in 2026
The successful arrival of the first LNG shipment of the year is considered a positive signal for Vietnam’s LNG import activities in 2026.
At a time when the global energy market remains volatile due to geopolitical factors, logistics challenges, and rising demand, maintaining a stable LNG supply is vital for national energy security.
In addition, LNG import activities also reflect the growing development of global energy supply chains and international transportation, particularly in the field of specialized LNG shipping.
