HO CHI MINH CITY COMMENCES CONSTRUCTION OF QTM INTERNATIONAL PORT WITH A CAPACITY OF 16 MILLION TONS/YEAR, ENHANCING LOGISTICS CAPACITY IN THE SOUTHERN REGION
Ho Chi Minh City continues to affirm its position as a leading logistics center with the official commencement of construction of the QTM International Port, with a total investment of nearly 6,900 billion VND and a designed capacity of 16 million tons of cargo per year. The project will not only enhance the operational capacity of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster but also contribute to the completion of logistics infrastructure, strengthen supply chain connectivity, and promote import and export activities in the Southern region.

Ho Chi Minh City Invests in New International Port, Expanding Logistics Capacity and Connecting Supply Chains
On the morning of July 5, 2026, Ho Chi Minh City officially commenced construction of the QTM International Port in Phu My Ward. This is one of the key logistics infrastructure projects, contributing to improving port operation capacity, promoting international trade, and increasing the connectivity of supply chains in the key economic region of the South.
With a total investment of nearly VND 6,900 billion, the project is expected to become an important link in the Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port system, meeting the increasing cargo transportation needs of domestic and foreign businesses.
Modern Port with a Capacity of 16 Million Tons of Cargo per Year
QTM International Port is built on an area of over 80 hectares, boasting a designed capacity of approximately 16 million tons of cargo per year, along with a comprehensive warehouse system and a logistics area covering nearly 200,000 m².
The project will be implemented in two phases from 2026 to 2034. Upon completion, the port will have 8 berths, capable of receiving vessels with a tonnage of 60,000 DWT and is planned to handle vessels up to 100,000 DWT, contributing to improved customs clearance capacity and optimizing international maritime transport operations.
Enhancing the Advantages of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Cluster
The addition of the QTM International Port will further strengthen the position of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster – one of the world's largest deep-water ports capable of receiving mother vessels and directly connecting to trans-Pacific shipping routes, Europe, and many international markets.
Following the expansion of its administrative boundaries, Ho Chi Minh City now possesses approximately 110 km of coastline, creating favorable conditions for the development of the marine economy, logistics, and maritime services, making them important growth drivers in the new phase.
According to local statistics, in the first six months of 2026, the volume of goods transported by sea and inland waterways increased by 7.3%, reflecting the growing demand for logistics from production, import-export, and goods distribution activities.
Towards an Integrated Logistics Ecosystem
More than just a seaport, QTM International Port is oriented towards developing into an integrated logistics ecosystem, seamlessly connecting:
• Seaports
• Warehouses and logistics centers
• Multimodal transport
• Value-added services
• Comprehensive supply chain solutions
This model helps businesses optimize logistics costs, shorten cargo transit times, and improve the efficiency of import and export operations.
Opportunities for Logistics and Import/Export Businesses
According to the Government's development orientation, logistics costs currently account for approximately 14–16% of GDP. Therefore, investing in modern seaports will contribute to reducing transportation costs and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods in the international market.
The operation of QTM International Port will open up many opportunities for logistics businesses, shipping lines, import/export businesses, as well as warehousing, transportation, and supply chain service providers, especially in the Southern region.
This is also a significant step in the strategy of developing a modern, synchronized, and internationally connected logistics system, contributing to making Ho Chi Minh City a leading logistics and maritime center in Southeast Asia.
