Singapore Launches First Electric Tugboat – Paving the Way for a Zero-Emission Logistics Future
Singapore has officially unveiled its first fully electric tugboat – PXO-ACE-1 – marking a significant milestone in the decarbonization journey of the regional maritime industry. This launch represents a key step toward energy transition, technological innovation, and sustainable logistics operations – a direction that Dolphin Sea Air Services Corp. is actively pursuing.
PXO-ACE-1 – Asia’s First Fully Electric Tugboat
The PXO-ACE-1 tugboat was developed by PaxOcean, a subsidiary of the Kuok Maritime Group. With a bollard pull of 50 tons and powered by a 3 MWh lithium-titanium-oxide (LTO) battery system, the vessel is capable of fully emission-free operations.
What sets it apart: PXO-ACE-1 is future-ready, designed to integrate green fuels such as methanol and ammonia once they become commercially viable. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with a digital twin, enabling real-time data monitoring and operational optimization—reducing idle voyages, cutting costs, and minimizing emissions.
PXO-ACE-1 is expected to commence operations in Singapore waters by Q1 2026, ahead of the national mandate requiring all new harbor craft to be fully electric or use net-zero fuels by 2030.
CSA – Industry Synergy for a Sustainable Logistics Ecosystem
The PXO-ACE-1 tugboat is the result of an initiative by the Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA), led by Kuok Maritime Group with active participation from PaxOcean, PCL, and POSH. The alliance aims to pioneer a next-generation maritime supply chain that is smart, green, and highly efficient.
CSA has pledged to invest over SGD 20 million in the next decade to:
- Reduce fleet emissions by 50%
- Cut maritime traffic by 20% through operational and technological optimization
